When carrying firearms, it is extremely important to remain qualified and up to date on all procedures and safety techniques. In order to do so, all Special Agents participate in quarterly evaluations on firearms usage and maintenance. Each agent is required to fire their weapon, and various other firearms, from different stances, angles, and by using both hands. In addition, agents are required to be familiar with batons, a weapon that can be used as self-defense or as an intermediate between using one’s hands and one’s firearm. Baton training consists of hands-on experience using a replacement baton, practicing hand placements, foot placements, body posture, and hitting and protective measures. Through the training, agents are placed in scenarios that help to alleviate doubt and reduce dangerous reactions and increase confidence and assurance when real life situations occur. The proper training sessions for firearms and batons provide vital information through defensive tactics and necessary safety precautions.

The following pieces of evidence include photos demonstrating my abilities when shooting both a pistol and a shotgun. I attended training and qualifications sessions to gain knowledge about the pistol and the shotgun. I learned the names and functions of each part on each weapon and important information to keep in mind when using a gun. I have also included important safety tips when firing a weapon as a guide to ensure personal wellbeing and minimize danger to those nearby. Additionally, I have incorporated safety tips representing the three basic hand, arm, and foot placements when using a baton as a protective measure. I was able to gather background information about the baton as an intermediate weapon for self-protection and practice techniques and positions taught during the training and qualification course. As I have a minor in Justice, Law, and Society, it is extremely important to know the proper ways to handle an altercation and know how to protect myself in the future. I was able to walk away with straightforward safety tips that are essential when using any weapon, and are critical to the protection of any agent in potentially life-threatening situations.
